The Groove Warehouse offers, along with drums, a wide variety of drumheads and drum skins. The names are interchangeable as some countries call them drum skins and others call them drumheads. Remo Belli and Sam Muchnick are credited with creating a Mylar, a polymer plastic, drum skin in 1957. Chick Evans late 1956 is also credited with the development of Mylar drumhead. Marching drums often include a 5-mil Kevlar® drum skin providing the ability to be placed under very high tension. Evans and Remo are the two main brands of drumheads the Groove Warehouse stock for drummers and percussionists.

Shop NowThe Groove Warehouse is also proud to stock Australian kangaroo hide Drum skins by Kentville Drums Australia. Drum skins come in either 1- ply, 2- ply and are measured by the skin thickness ranging from 7mil - 12 mil thickness. The number of ply’s or layers controls how much the drumhead resonates or rings. Double ply drumheads will sound dryer than single ply skins and so on. Drum skins may also contain various dampening systems included in the production of the drumhead such as inner dampening rings underneath the skin or a laminated circular dot placed either underneath or on top of the drumhead such as the Remo controlled sound or the Evans power center series. Both Remo and Evans also create drumheads that emulate the sound of animal skins, Evans Calftone and Remo Renaissance drumheads are prime examples. Drum skins may also be decorated with images printed on them. The most common decorated drumhead would be the drumkit bass drum resonant skin. Bands and ensembles often place decals on the skin to allow for visual presentation and brand promotion. The Groove Warehouse can create custom drum skin decals for your band or marching ensemble. Drum skins are offered individually or in special packages or packs. Drum skin packs provide a way of selecting matched skins for your drum kit creating an balanced consistant tonal range across your drum kit. The Groove Warehouse also carry specialist drum skins for concert band and orchestra such as timpani skins as well as world percussion replacement drum heads for conga, bongo and djembe skins. Drummers often like to place things on top of their drums to enhance and augmnent their individual sound such as jingles, dampeners and sound effects by companies like BFSD and Keo drum products.
